The CCBA is the middle of IIBA's three core business analysis credentials. The Entry Certificate in Business Analysis (ECBA) comes before it and the Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) after it. It asks for roughly two to three years of logged practice and tests whether you can apply the BABOK Guide to real situations. It also tells an employer something specific: that you can be handed a well-scoped piece of analysis and trusted to run it.

Most people who want the CCBA never reach the exam room. IIBA asks for 3,750 hours of business analysis work in the last seven years, 21 professional development hours in the last four, and two references who have known you for at least six months. Each of those numbers carries a counting rule, and the counting rules are where applications stall. Clear them, and the 130-question paper is the straightforward half.

The Certification of Capability in Business Analysis is IIBA's mid-level credential, sitting above the entry-level ECBA and below the CBAP. It is aimed at practitioners with roughly two to three years of real business analysis work behind them, and it is assessed against A Guide to the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge, the BABOK Guide.

Why does the CCBA application stop more people than the exam does?

Because the exam is a test of judgement and the application is a test of record-keeping, and almost nobody keeps records for a credential they have not yet decided to pursue.
