OCEB 2 Exam Levels:
The OCEB program consists of five examinations, granting five Certifications. Above the single Fundamental level, the program splits into two tracks— one business-oriented, the other technically-oriented.

Fundamental
With the scope of knowledge and skills covered in the OCEB 2 Fundamental examination and a corresponding amount of industry experience, a BPM Practitioner holding the OCEB 2 Fundamental Certification should be a dynamic and responsible member of a BPM team. Serving as a prerequisite for all of the higher-level OCEB 2 certifications, this exam first covers basic concepts and terms in the business itself, and business process, business process management and business motivation and planning. The exam then covers Business Process Modeling by testing candidates on the definition and usage of the BPMN 2 elements identified in the specification itself as essential: The Descriptive Conformance Class and the Analytic Conformance Class. The exam determines with a section on governance and metrics frameworks, process quality, rounding out the knowledge base of a competent fundamental BPM practitioner. This certification is prerequisite for the OCEB 2 Business and Technical Intermediate Certifications and expires five years from the date the exam is passed.

Business Intermediate
With this level of knowledge, skills, and expertise and a corresponding amount of industry experience, a BPM Practitioner holding the OCEB 2 Business Intermediate Level Certification should be qualified to execute and design as part of a team and possibly as a team leader, a BPM project of moderate scope including distributed components. Comprehensive coverage of the BMM lets the candidate relate their BPM projects to business need, while near-complete coverage of BPMN 2 enables modeling to cover the many aspects of processes encountered in business today including compensation, multiple gateways and events, conversation and choreography diagrams, error handling, and more. (The OCEB 2 Technical Intermediate exam will complete coverage of BPMN 2.) By adding coverage of Decision Management and Modeling to Business Rules, this level covers decision-making well beyond BPMN decision gateways, while the benefits of a shared business vocabulary, introduced through SBVR, adds another important point of view. (Similarly, the OCEB 2 Technical Intermediate exam will round out coverage of DMM.) Finally, this level covers Frameworks for Process Quality and Governance concentrating on SOX, COBIT, ITIL, Six Sigma, and LEAN. The OCEB 2 Business Intermediate Certification requires the OCEB 2 Fundamental Certification as a prerequisite and is prerequisite for the OCEB 2 Business Advanced Certification. The OCEB 2 Business Intermediate Certification expires five years from the date the OCEB 2 Business Intermediate exam is passed.

Technical Intermediate
With this level of expertise and knowledge and an equivalent amount of industry experience, a candidate holding the OCEB Technical Intermediate Level Certification could be eligible for some accountable positions on the technical side of a company. He/she could initiate, organize, and lead a BPM project implementation or integration of a single application within an existing technical architecture, or supervise a group implementing a process that integrates into an enterprise-wide system coordinated by a holder of an OCEB Advanced Certification. Or, such a Certified BPM practitioner would be able to provide high-level support for Technical-side topics in an enterprise-scale BPM Center of Excellence (CoE), or direct initial technical-oriented training and quality assurance for BPM projects. The OCEB Technical Intermediate Certification requires the OCEB Fundamental Certification and is the prerequisite for the OCEB Technical Advanced Certification. This exam will available soon.

Business Advanced
Having this level of knowledge and expertise and a corresponding amount of industry experience, a BPM Practitioner holding the OCEB Business Advanced Level Certification could be qualified to lead a significant BPM project implementation from the business community side or to advise senior management on the application and optimization of business processes to achieve strategic goals. A candidate could be able to provide both visionary and practical guidance for large-scale enterprise-wide BPM deployments with highly complex interdependent processes, or establish and manage a BPM Center of Excellence (CoE), or design and provide in-depth business-oriented training and quality assurance for BPM technologies. This examination, with little BPMN content, is not being modified in the transition to OCEB 2. The OCEB 2 Business Advanced Certification requires OCEB 2 Business Intermediate Certification as a prerequisite. The OCEB 2 Business Advanced Certification expires five years from the date the Advanced Business exam is passed.

Technical Advanced
Achieving Technical Advanced level of expertise and knowledge, and a corresponding amount of industry skill, a BPM Practitioner having the OCEB Technical Advanced Level Certification could be qualified to lead the technical side of a critical BPM automation project, or to direct senior management on the automation and monitoring of business processes to achieve strategic aims and meet GRC requirements. He or she could be able to deliver both visionary and practical technical guidance for large-scale enterprise-wide BPM deployments with highly complex interacting processes, or build and manage the technical side of a BPM Center of Excellence (CoE), or design and provide in-depth technically-oriented training and quality assurance for BPM technologies. The OCEB Technical Advanced Certification requires both the OCEB or OCEB 2 Fundamental Certification and the OCEB Technical Intermediate Certification as prerequisites.
